Wax then buff; wax then buff . . .

When you’re applying Briwax to your furniture, remember:

  • Use Briwax sparingly.  A little bit goes a long way.
  • It is better to apply 3 or 4 LIGHT applications of Briwax in lieu of 1 heavy application.
  • Always, buff after each application of Briwax.  That’s right – wax then buff; wax then buff; wax then buff!!

Now you’re on your way to achieving a beautiful waxed finish to your furniture!

Briwax Color Chart

Briwax is available in clear (that doesn’t yellow), 8 wood tones – Light Brown, Dark Brown, Antique Mahogany (Cherry), Golden Oak, Tudor Brown, Dark Oak, Teak, Rustic Pine and a pure Black wax – Ebony.  The color chart below will show how the colors compare with each other.

Clear is the perfect choice when you don’t want to impart any color onto the wood.  Clear Briwax has absolutely no color and will not yellow.  Of course, with that said, Clear Briwax will not hide or diminish any scratches on the wood.

Light Brown is the most versatile of all of the colors – it takes on the color of the wood on which it is used.

Golden Oak has yellow undertones.  It compliments beautifully the red tones of Heart Pine.

Antique Mahogany can also be called Cherry.  It has a hint of red and is beautiful on Cherry or Mahogany woods – brings out the red tones of the wood.  Try Antique Mahogany on Red Oak floors to highlight the red tones.

Dark Brown is a deep, rich brown.  It is widely used on Walnut to enhance its rich, dark color.

Briwax Brushes

Other products in the Briwax family . . . Brushes – Hand, Rotary, Dome and Drum Style

Wax Polishing Brushes . . . these natural bristle brushes are entirely hand made and are used by the trade to bring out the shine in a wax finish.  Designed specifically for buffing Briwax, these brushes reduce the labor of hand buffing by 50%. Great tool for old, reclaimed lumber that is left in the rough. Also very useful on carvings and deep recesses.  These brushes are made with tampico bristles which, over time, will discolor but will last for years.

Tampico is a natural vegetable fiber harvested from a variety of cactus plants that grow wild in Mexico.  The tampico fiber has a fine, delicate and smooth texture.  It has abrasive qualities which make it an excellent choice for polishing applications.  It is important to note that tampico fiber keeps its qualities and smoothness over time, while other fibers will become hard and their qualities deteriorate.

Read more about the four brush types below.  Note that each brush type is designed for specific uses.

Oval Brush

The Hand brush is a great tool for quickly producing a shine to a fairly large or rough piece.  This is a must tool for a quick buff out of a small but rough item.  All natural tampico bristle, lasts a lifetime.

Use the Rotary, dome or drum brushes with an electric, pneumatic or cordless drill.

rotarybrush

The Rotary Brush is approximately 5” in diameter.  (The Rotary Brush is also known as the Pine Brush.)  This brush will take on the shape of a mushroom when it is revolving in a drill.  A very versatile brush.  This brush is great for large buffing jobs.  Please note:  This brush is temporarily unavailable.  Consider one of the brushes shown below.

domebrush

The Dome Brush is approximately 8” in diameter.  It is designed to reduce the labor of buffing out chair rungs, slats, etc.  This brush will shine up small tedious pieces very quickly.

drumbrush

The Drum Brush is approximately 4” in diameter on a cylinder 6” long.  This natural bristle brush is designed for table tops or any horizontal surface . . . no strain on the elbow.
