What is Liming Wax and Ceruse?

Briwax Liming Wax, white in color,  is a smooth paste formulation, which produces a white grained finish in open pored woods. Finish off the liming effect with an application of Clear Briwax to clean up the finished piece.

Lately we have received calls asking for “Ceruse” as a form of Liming wax. “Ceruse “ was a 16th century cosmetic used as a skin whitener. “Ceruse” or “Venetian Ceruse” contained a pigment composed of white lead that would eventually damage the user’s skin. A notable user of this type of cosmetic was Elizabeth I of England. The name may still be around but the product is not. If you are looking for Ceruse, just ask for Briwax Liming Wax, it does not contain lead.
